Davos, Jan 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pitch the new opportunities for business India now offers following policy reforms undertaken by his government during a round-table dinner he is hosting for CEOs of leading multinationals later on Monday.
He will brief 40 heavy-hitting global and 20 Indian chief executives representing different sectors about the government initiatives to liberalise foreign investments and the emerging opportunities in renewable energy, ecommerce, infrastructure and manufacturing.
The Indian economy is forecast to expand by as much as 8 per cent annually over the next four years and to be worth some $5 trillion by 2025. It is said to become the world's fifth-largest economy this year and overtake Germany to become the fourth-largest in 2022.
On Tuesday, Modi is scheduled to address the World Economic Forum's 120-member International Business Council.
"These two separate interactions with 60 and 120 CEOs will provide a direct opportunity for the chief executives to get information about transformative changes happening in India which present huge opportunities to them," said Ramesh Abhishek, secretary in the department of industrial policy and promotion.
Modi is leading the biggest Indian delegation ever to the summit. The Indian personalities who are scheduled to address the gathering of policy makers, thinkers and top corporate leaders include Railways and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal, Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Mahindra & Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar, Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Mittal and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal.
“Our economy has expanded significantly since the last time an Indian prime minister went to Davos...We want to tell the world to invest in India,” Vijay Gokhale, secretary, economic relations in the external affairs ministry, told reporters earlier in New Delhi.
Also on Tuesday, Modi will address a plenary session of the World Economic Forum, the first time in 21 years since an Indian prime minister attended the event.
"At Davos, I look forward to sharing my vision for India's future engagement with the international community,' he said before embarking for Davos.
