Kolkata, Aug 11 (UNI) Bengali film ‘Dhananjoy’, one of the most hotly debated crimes in the history of the country - the murder of 14-year-old Hetal Parekh in 1990 and the subsequent hanging of Dhananjoy Chatterjee in 2004, is scheduled to be released today. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the Bengali film Dhananjoy with 'A' certification, the director of the film have said. The film directed by Arindam Sil was refused censor certification in Kolkata. With the release date just days away, the panicky producers and director approached CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani in Mumbai. After an emergency-viewing of the film August 9, the makers walked away with an “A” certificate and substantial cuts including a brutal rape sequence. The producers have also been asked to submit an NOC from the Animal Welfare Board of India. "We are very happy that the film has been passed by CBFC with an A certification," director Arindam Sil said. “We are now releasing the film on August 11 as scheduled,” he added. The producer of the film Srikant Mohta of Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF) said, "We are happy with the final outcome." Dhananjoy stars Anirban Bhattacharya, Mimi Chakraborty, Anusha Vishwanathan, Kaushik Sen, Sudiptaa Chakraborty, Paran Bandopadhyay. It has been written by Sil along with Padmanabha Dasgupta. The story is based on the conviction Dhananjoy, accused for the gruesome murder of Hetal Parekh in her apartment, which took place in the year 1990, convicted and executed 14 years later after a lengthy trial. On the basis of circumstantial evidence and on the basis of the deceased mother's statement, Dhananjoy Chatterjee- a security guard, was executed and hanged to death on the early hours of August 15, 2004, after serving imprisonment for 14 long years and after having appealed to all levels of court in the country; and finally, to the President of India.
