Delhi Cong says no alliance with AAP; refuses to back on Centre's Ordinance

Delhi Cong says no alliance with AAP; refuses to back on Centre's Ordinance

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) A section of Congress' Delhi unit on Monday opined that there should not be any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and also refused to extend support to the party on the recent Centre's Ordinance on control of services in Delhi.

The latest development comes days after Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal had sought support from the Congress, terming the Ordinance brought by the BJP-led government at the Centre as "undemocratic and unconstitutional". The Congress had said it will consult with its State units and other 'like-minded' parties on the same.

In this regard, a meeting was convened by the Congress president at the party headquarters here on Monday, in presence of top party leaders- Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal.

"Several leaders of Delhi unit of Congress refused to support CM Arvind Kejriwal during today's meeting convened by party's national chief Mallikarjun Kharge," Sources told UNI, referring to the Centre's Ordinance.

Sources further said, "The party high command, however, is likely to take advice from State units including Gujarat where AAP fought against it in the polls and then take a call on the same."

"Delhi leaders of Congress categorically in the meeting said they don't want any alliance with AAP (in 2024 Lok Sabha elections)," sources added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar Chaudhary on being asked about the meeting, told UNI, "The party high command will take the final decision."

It may be mentioned that the Delhi CM met several of his counterparts including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, and other Opposition parties including NCP in a bid to garner support against the Centre's Ordinance.

He is scheduled to meet senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury here on Tuesday to seek support against the Ordinance.
