Bengaluru, May 23 (UNI) Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Devegowda today said that the JD(S)-Congress government which will be installed today would have to carry out consultations before taking a decision on farm loan waiver issue.
Chief Minister designate H D Kumaraswamy had announced that he would write off agriculture loans availed by farmers from all sources including PSU and Cooperative Banks within 24 hours if JD(S) gained majority on its own and formed the next government.
Speaking to reporters at his residence on Wednesday, Mr Gowda said JD(S) had not gained majority on its own and it would be heading a coalition government with the support of Congress. So such decisions can be made only after due consultation with coalition partner.
‘’How can my party take a decision to waive farm loans on its own with strength of just 37 members in the Legislative Assembly. This has to be discussed in Coordination Committee meeting and a final decision arrived at,’’ he said.
More than being the President of JD(S), I feel that I should bless the party leaders as a fatherly figure. I want to advise Mr Kumaraswamy to take a decision in this regard after due consultations with Congress leaders in the coordination committee, he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Gowda said top leaders of non-NDA parties had arrived in the city to be part of oath taking ceremony of Mr Kumaraswamy as Chief minister and Dr G Parameshwara as Deputy Chief Minister. ‘’We cannot say anything on formation of the third front as yet,’’ he added.
