Cyclone 'Titli' makes landfall near Palasa in AP district

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) The 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Titli' made its landfall by crossing North Andhra Pradesh­-South Odisha Coasts (near Palasa in Srikakulam district) to the southwest of Gopalpur early on Thursday morning.
During the landfall of 'Titli', an estimated maximum sustained surface wind speed of 140-­150 kmph gusting 165 kmph was witnessed between 0430 and 0530 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that 'the landfall process has been completed and "the centre of eye of cyclone 'Titli' lies over the land."
It lay centred at 0530 hrs IST today, over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha near Lat.18.8°N and Long. 84.5°E, about 70 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 160 km north­northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
It is very likely to move northwestwards for next 12 hours and then re­curve northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal across Odisha.
The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm is very likely to weaken gradually becoming a severe cyclonic storm around noon, cyclonic storm around evening of today and a deep depression by morning of October 12.
