Crucial India-China Lieutenant General-level talks begins

New Delhi, Jun 6 (UNI) The crucial military talks at Lieutenant General-level between India and China began on Saturday to resolve over a month-long stalemate at the borders in Eastern Ladakh.

The meeting which is being held at Moldo meeting point on Chinese side, is led by 14 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Harinder Singh from India side while the Chinese side of the delegation is represented by South Xinjiang Military Division Corps Commander Major General Lin Liu.

China appointed Maj Gen Liu two days back, indicating softening on its stands on border row with India.

On Friday, the joint-secretary-level diplomatic talks were held between two neighbouring nations.

Both sides agreed that in accordance with the guidance provided by their leadership, they “should handle their differences through peaceful discussion bearing in mind the importance of respecting each other’s sensitivities, concerns and aspirations and not allow them to become disputes”, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Tensions built up along the LAC following violent clashes between hundreds of Indian and Chinese troops in the Sikkim and Ladakh sectors last month.

Army officers of the two sides had held several rounds of meetings along the disputed border but have been unable to break the border impasse.

As per sources in the army, restoration of status quo in all areas of eastern Ladakh, removal of huge build-up of Chinese troops in the region and among others are India’s point of agenda.
The India-China boundary covers the 3,488-km-long Line of Actual Control.
