Brussels, Dec 4(UNI) The number of COVID cases across the continent of Europe has crossed 75 million even as it prepares to take on the new Omicron variant at a time when the healthcare system in several countries are fast reaching maximum capacity, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday.
According to reports the rise in the number of COVID cases across the continent is not being attributed to the Omicron variant for now. For example in the United Kingdom the surge in the cases has been largely due to the dominant Delta variant, according to the country's Office for National Statistics.
Meanwhile, Russia’s continues to be the worst affected country in the continent with its COVID death toll reaching 578,020, the third-worst in the world.
In The Netherlands, the health authorities are worried about passengers arriving from South Africa who have tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival despite having been vaccinated and testing negative before their flight departure.
