Coronavirus toll rises to 25 in Odisha, 206 new covid cases put the tally at 7065

Bhubaneswar, Jun 30 (UNI) Two more covid positive patients died in Odisha taking the total casualty to 25 as covid+ve tally surged to 7065 with the detection of 206 new cases from 22 districts during the last 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said two women covid positive patients of Ganjam district succumbed to the coronavirus while under treatment in hospital.

While one of them was a 48-year old female, the other a 39-year old female who was also suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease.

With two more covid deaths, the toll in the state rose to 25 of which Ganjam district alone accounted for a maximum 14 deaths followed by five in Khordha, four in Cuttack and one each in Puri,Bargarh and Mayurbhanj district.

Official sources said out of 204 new covid cases ,192 were from the quarantine centres and the rest 14 are local cases.

Malkangiri district reported the maximum 36 covid positive cases including 29 BSF Jawans who have been accommodated Malybanta Boys Hostel, Jr. Science College & Girls Hostel.

These BSF jawans tested covid positive were the returnee of Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal.

Apart from Malkangri, Jajpur district reported 28 covid cases followed by Koraput (18), 17 each in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur, Bolangir (16) and Deogarh (15).

With the recovery of 203 covid patients yesterday, the total recoveries in the state has gone up to 4946 and the active cases stand at 2087.

Besides, 25 covid deaths, seven more covid patients also died in the state but the authority attributed these deaths as other than Covid.

Ganjam district continued to be in the top of the covid tally in the state with 1370 cases followed by Khordha (821), Cuttack (575), Jajpur (514), Gajapati (435) and Balasore (351).

In view of rising cases of several health workers infected with coronavirus in the capital city,the Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner(BMC) has issued orders for Private Health Institutions to take precautionary measures.

Sources said frequent movement of hospital staff to slum areas has posed serious risk of spreading the coronavirus.

All the Private Hospitals/Nursing Homes shall maintain an exclusive employees' database of the employees residing in slum areas of BMC.

The employees of the slum areas need to be kept in shift for 14 days and the hospital authorities will arrange their accommodation within the hospital premises.

After the 14 days shift the set of employees will be relieved from their duties after their COVID testing and negative report. This process will continue on rotation basis.
