New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) The Congress on Monday termed the comments by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had to "seek bail" as attempts to hide the adverse impact of demonetisation on the country.
Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the PM was speaking ‘untruth’ to hide the adverse impact due to his ‘disastrous’ decision of demonetisation.
‘’The fact remains that demonetisation was the greatest disaster inflicted on the country by Prime Minister Modi. None of the purported objectives that the PM sought to achieve with demonetisation were met.
That is why the party and the Government are running scared from celebrating the second anniversary of demonetisation. Is the PM trying to hide the adverse impact that the demonetisation decision had on the Indian economy,’’Mr Singhvi said.
Charging the BJP Government of foisting ‘false’ cases against Congress leaders, he said that the party would not be deterred by any threats.
‘’The Congress is used to false cases being foisted on them by the British during the freedom struggle. However, the way we were undeterred by the false cases foisted on our leaders by the British during the freedom movement, we will not be deterred by a Government that is following the policy of vendetta,’’he said.
Addressing a rally in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, the PM, under attack from the principal Opposition for his noteban move in 2016, defended the decision strongly and said it was due to the demonetisation that 'fake companies' have been identified and one impact of the same was that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had to "seek bail". "It is ridiculous that they want an account of demonetisation. It was due to the demonetisation that fake companies were identified. Because of that you had to seek bail," the Prime Minister said addressing a rally in the state.UNI AR ADG 1913
