Kolkata, Dec 24 (UNI) " The Chief Minister cannot afford to be in non-functional mode
at such dangerous developments in the temples of education," iterated Governor
Jagdeep Dhankar after cooling heels for almost one and half hours and then leaving
the Jadavpur University sans attending the prestigious convocation ceremony on
Tuesday.
Visibly agitated Governor, also the Chancellor, rued that "rule of law is severely
compromised and the DNA of the educational system has completely poisoned in
the state".
" I am also drawing the attention of the State Government by writing to the Hon’ble
Chief Minister that she cannot afford to be in non functional mode at such dangerous
developments in the temples of education, " Mr Dhankhar asserted.
" She needs to engage in her role as executive head. The designed confrontation
with the Chancellor is not at all in the interest of the education or State," the Governor
said and requested her to discuss the issue with him after being fully updated about
the incidents.
" I would greatly appreciate if she can make it convenient for this in the coming
fortnight," he stated.
Expressing his profound anguish over the development, the Governor termed the
happening as "planned".
He said, "The DNA of the educational system has completely decomposed. I've
never seen such collapse of law. The State Government has brought the situation
to such a pass. There's no semblance of democracy. "
" Events that have unfolded as a result of politically motivated orchestration of
obstruction of my entry to JU to preside over the Convocation so that students get
fruits of their labour, leaves no manner of doubt that rule of law is severely
compromised, " Mr Dhankhar commented.
" A painful scenario that the Jadavpur University Vice Chancellor is oblivious
deliberately of his obligations and looking for alibis. He is presiding total collapse
of rule of law. Ruinous state of affairs, " the Governor said.
" Media in such situations need to focus on public welfare as well and signal
that student interests can’t be so put in jeopardy, " he observed.
" The number of those obstructing is only around fifty. System being held hostage
and those enjoined with the task are oblivious of their obligations. A collapse that can
only lead to unwholesome consequences. Rule of law is no where in sight. As
constitutional head concerned, " he rued.
