China Open: Ponnappa-Rankireddy break into in mixed doubles main draw

Fuzhou, Nov 14 (UNI) India's Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy on Tuesday beat their respective rivals in the mixed doubles to qualify for the main draw of the China Open Superseries event.

The Indian pair breezed past Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-Huei and Wu Ti Jung 24-22, 21-7 before beating Denmark's Niclas Nohr and Sara Thygesen 21-16, 19-21, 22-20.

Ponnappa and Rankireddy will play against Denmark pair Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen in the first round of the main draw on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Indian star players Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu will gear up for the action on Wednesday.

However, world no 2 Kidambi Srikanth opted out of the event due to muscle strain.
