New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Slamming the statement by Home Minister Amit Shah that Hindi will attain a new height by the time 2024 Lok Sabha elections are held, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday charged the Centre of imposing Hindi in the entire country and urged Congress party workers to join state-wide protest announced by DMK on September 20.
In a series of tweets posted on his behalf by his family, Mr Chidambaram said,'A dangerous idea that Hindi alone can unite the people of this country has been floated. The Tamil people, as well as all others who speak other languages, will never allow the imposition of Hindi.'
'We support the development of all languages, but we will never accept the idea that Hindi alone will unite the people of this country,' he said in another tweet .
