CESC sub-station near Chadni Chowk damaged in fire

Kolkata, Feb 10 (UNI) A major fire damaged a Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) sub-station in central Kolkata causing widespread snapping of power, affecting Metro Rail services and disrupting peak hour traffic today.
Official sources said at least five fire fighting engines were deployed to combat the flames, which were brought under control within two hours.A CESC employee sustained minor burns.The fire was first noticed around 0900 hrs at the sub-station onPrincep Street in Chadni Chowk area following a short circuit at the basement where work was on, fire brigade officials said.
A CESC official said not much damage was done in the fire, which was brought under control by the fire tenders and CESC experts inside thesub-station, close to Ganesh Chandra Avenue.The supply of power to parts of central Kolkata was affected and Kolkata Metro Railway traffic was disrupted for some time at the peak hour following disconnection of power line as a precautionary measure.Traffic in the congested Chadni Chowk area was also affected.
