Patna, Jul 04 (UNI) Bihar Water Resources Minister Sanjay Jha today said the Centre's
nod for Kosi-Mechi river link project of interlinking rivers of Kosi and Mahananda basin
involving expenses of Rs 4,900 Crores was expected soon which would create additional
irrigation capacity in 2,10, 516 hectares of the land in the state.
Mr Jha while replying to debate on budgetary demand of Water Resources Department in Assembly, said that the approval of the Central government was expected soon for ambitious Kosi-Mechi river link project with an investment of Rs 4,900 crores which would help in creating additional irrigation capacity in 2,10,516 hectares of the land in the state. The project was to get clearance from Forest, Environment and Climate change Ministry of the Central government, he added.
"I have personally requested the Central Water Resources Department for approval of the project on June 17 this year and after that, required data has been sent from National Water Development Authority to Environment and Climate change Ministry for expediting the process of clearing the project", the Minister said, adding that Sakri-Nata link project under Intra-state river linking scheme was also under the process of approval in Central Water Commission. A high-level meeting of the Commission was held on June 28 in this connection, he informed.
