CBI registers 5 cases against custom officials, others

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered five cases against certain Customs officials and others for alleged duty evasion in import of mobile accessories.
Five cases were registered under section 120-B r/w section 420 of IPC and relevant sections of PC Act, against certain customs officials including five Examiners of Customs Department, Air Cargo Complex, Mumbai Zone-III; one Customs House Clearing Agent; three importers and unknown others on the allegations of duty evasion causing loss of around Rs 17.39 lakh to the Department in the matter of import of mobile accessories through five bills of entry in the month of April, CBI said in a statement here on Wednesday.
The CBI said it was further alleged that the Customs Officials had conspired with the Customs House Clearing Agent and importers and had not properly examined the consignments after comparing the imported goods with the packing list.
