Bollywood expresses concern over Amazon rainforest wildfires

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Bollywood fraternity, including Akshay Kumar, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, raised their concern for the continuing wildfires in the Amazon rainforest and highlighted the importance of the forests for the planet Earth.

Amid the raging wildfires, the shroud of black smoke even reached the capital Sao Paulo, which is nearly 1,700 miles away and covered the city in darkness on Wednesday afternoon.

"Been seeing heart-breaking & alarming pictures of the Amazon rainforest which has been on fire since more than 2 weeks!It is responsible for 20% of the world’s oxygen.This affects each one of us...the earth may survive climate change but we won’t. #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForTheAmazon," Akshay Kumar said in a tweet on Thursday.

Dia Mirza also stressed on the impact of climate change in her post.

"Deniers of #ClimateChange we are being gutted by the fires caused by your denial! The Amazon forest, the lungs of our planet has been on fire for the last 16 days and more than 72000 fires have occurred already this year. When will world media give this more attention? #ClimateChangeIsReal #ActOnClimate #amazonia #amazonas" Dia said.

"The Amazon rainforest has been burning for weeks and we are only just finding out about this!! This is such a scary news! Amazon forests are the lungs of this already suffering planet and they are on fire now! I wish this got more importance from world media!! #saveamazon," Anushka posted on her Instagram story.

Arjun Kapoor, posted a message on his Instagram story saying, "It's scary how bad the fire at the Amazon Rainforest is!! I can't even begin to imagine the impact this will have on the world environment. It is truly saddening. #PrayforAmazon."

Ayushmann Khurrana said,"The lungs of our planet Earth have been burning for weeks!"

Disha Patani wrote, "Terrifying to think that the Amazon is the largest rain forest on the planet, creating 20 per cent of the earth's oxygen, basically the lungs of the world, has been on fire and burning for the last 16 days running, with literally NO media coverage whatsoever! Why?"

Hansika Motwani said,'My heart is breaking. The lungs of our planet are burning causing decimation, inconceivable destruction and horrific despair for indigenous people. #AmazonRainforest #PrayForTheAmazon'.
