BJP fields Sukhram's son from Mandi, Dhumal to contest from Sujanpur

BJP fields Sukhram's son from Mandi, Dhumal to contest from Sujanpur

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) The list of candidates released by BJP on Wednesday included the names of senior leaders like former Chief Minister P K Dhumal, who will be contesting from Sujanpur, while Sukhram's son Anil Sharma has been named as party candidate for Mandi. The party would be also fielding state unit chief Satpal Singh Satti from Una even as name of a key Chief Ministerial aspirant and Union Health Minister J P Nadda does not figure in the list. The saffron party has so far avoided naming any chief ministerial candidate. The two-time Chief Minister Dhumal will contest from Sujanpur instead of Hamirpur, which he represents in the outgoing assembly. Obviously for his seniority and experience, Mr Dhumal will be a key contender for the post of chief minister if the BJP comes back to power in the Congress-ruled state. The sitting Sujanpur MLA Narender Thakur has been now shifted to Hamirpur segment. Among others prominent leaders Kisan Kapoor has been fielded from Dharamshala constituency. The BJP has changed tickets of three sitting legislatures from Arki, Chamba and Bhoranj. The party candidates for these seats now would be Ratan Singh Pal (Akri), Pawan Naiyar (Chamba) and Ms Kamlesh Kumari (Bhoranj). Not many were surprised by BJP decision to field Anil Sharma, Sukhram's son, from Mandi. Mr Sharma was inducted into the cabinet in 2013 and allocated key portfolios of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. He had attributed the reason for quitting Congress to Rahul Gandhi's neglect of Himachal Pradesh affairs. Among others, DS Thakur will be BJP nominee from Dalhousie, while Ms Sarvin Chaudhary will fight from Shahpur. Pramod Sharma will contest from Shimla Rural and Ratan Singh Pal will be saffron party nominee from Arki. Rakesh Verma is BJP nominee from Theog, from where Congress Chief Ministerial face and incumbent CM Virbhadra Singh may contest. The seat was earlier held by Vidya Stokes, a prominent Congress leader from the state. The BJP Central Election Committee had met last week to finalise their candidates. The single-phase election to the 68-member assembly will be held on November 9. UNI DEVN SDR 1827
