Bengaluru, UP top in crime against Dalits

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Bengaluru has emerged in the list of cities where maximum number of crimes against Dalits have taken place while Uttar Pradesh stands first among the states in this respect, as per the latest data released by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) for 2016.
Bengaluru has recorded highest number of crimes against Dalits. Out of 207 cases registered, 190 cases were under the provisions of the Schedule Caste (SC) /Schedule Tribe (ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Only 16 cases in the city have attracted sections of both the Dalit Atrocities Act and the Indian Penal Code.
In Patna, though 241 cases were registered for crime against Dalits but no case, except one case of rape of Dalit women, was registered under the section of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. More than 95 percent of cases in Patna were registered for minor crimes of simple hurt, trespass, mischief or the use of abusive language, the data shows.
