Balapur laddu scoffs at economic recession, fetches Rs 17.6 lakh

Hyderabad, Sep 12 (UNI) The economic recession being witnessed by the country, which has grabbed a lot of eyeballs in the recent times, failed to impact the famous Balapur Ganesh laddu, as it fetched Rs 17.6 lakh in open auction this year on Thursday, against Rs 16.60 lakh in 2018.
In an open bidding held at Balapur, a tiny village at the Hyderabad city outskirts, Kolan Ram Reddy, a local farmer, also native of Balapur, bought the laddu, weighing around 21 kg, held in the presence of State Education Minister Sabita Indira Reddy, here.
For the first time, the auction, which started in 1994 with the first sell-off of a meagre Rs 450, witnessed participation of bidders from Andhra Pradesh, as well.
