New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) Minister of State (Mos) for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise Babul Supriyo today flagged off the 8th Slum Yuva Daud run in the presence of Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel terming it as 'innovative step' for the youth of the nation.
Today’s run, which was also attended by famous basketball players Divya, Prashanti, Akanksha and Pratima, started from Qutub Minar and ended at Govt Boys & Girls School playground, Mehrauli and saw the participation of more than 3000 youth from Delhi slums. Addressing the participants, Mr Goel said, 'This is not just any other run but we are running for a better tomorrow, a New India where each youngster utilises his/her skills for nation building.' Babul also appreciated the Sports Ministry’s initiative of Slum Yuva Daud and calling it as a “innovative step” to tap young talent. Tughlakabad Member of Parliament (MP) Ramesh Bidhuri, who was also present at the rally, welcomed the Ministry’s initiative and encouraged the children to participate in run wholeheartedly. Significantly, the Slum Yuva Daud is part of the Adopt Slum Campaign initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan which aims at highlighting the government’s pro-people schemes among masses.
