New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that it will hear the Ayodhya land title case in an open court hearing on August 2 and directed the mediation panel to continue with the process and submit a fresh status report on July 31 on the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute that has lingered for centuries.
A constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, took into record the status report submitted by the mediation panel and said, "We now fix the date of hearing on August 2. We request the mediation committee to inform the outcome of the proceedings as of July 31."
The mediation panel comprises apex court former judge FMI Kalifulla, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.
"We request the Mediation Panel to inform the court the outcome of the mediation proceedings by 1.8.2019 to enable us to proceed further in the matter in terms of the present directions.
"We now fix the hearing of the cases on 2.8.2019. The Bench will assemble again on the said
date i.e. 2.8.2019 at 2.00 p.m."
Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer are the other members of the bench.
