Attack on Shah's road show: BJP leaders meet Vice-Prez

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) A BJP delegation called on Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu here on Wednesday and informed him about the violence during the road show of party president and Upper House member Amit Shah in West Bengal.

The delegation, including Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel, General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni, GVL Narasimhan and Rakesh Sinha, met Mr Naidu at his residence and submitted a memorandum.
In the memorandum, the leaders expressing concern over the attack, said there was breach of privilege.
Mr Javadekar said that the security of members of Rajya Sabha is the responsibility of the House and the Chairman.
In the memorandum, the party demanded appropriate action and a report on the matter.
Earlier in the day, Mr Shah made a blistering attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, holding the Trinamool Chief for 'attacks' on his roadshows and exuded confidence that the NDA government will return to power and the saffron party will win more than 300 seats.
Violence marred Mr Shah’s mega road show in Kolkata on Tuesday as clashes broke out between the saffron party workers and students of the Calcutta University and Vidyasagar College after the latter protested the rally.
Ugly scenes were witnessed as furious BJP supporters confronted the agitating students and even threw stones and bottles at the University gates. Reports said clashes broke out after sticks were hurled at Amit Shah's truck and stones were pelted at Amit Shah's convoy from a college hostel on Bidhan Sarani.
Three bikes were torched in front of Vidyasagar College hostel.
