The demand for imposition of the controversial AFSPA in the Garo Hills region came following the abduction of nine Assam-based traders by A'chik Songna An'pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) militants on September 29 morning from Songotagre village, near Chokpot in South Garo Hills district. " We are demanding imposition of AFSPA in Garo Hills as the people from both the sides of the inter-state border are being kidnapped and murdered," AMPF Chief convenor, Moniruz Zaman Moni, told UNI over phone.
