Assam govt resorting to destructive methods to stop Rahul's BJNY : Cong alleges

New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) The Congress party on Saturday accused the BJP-led Assam government for allegedly using destructive methods to stop former AICC President Rahul Gandhi's popular Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state.
The Congress also alleged that BJP goons had attacked the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra vehicles, vandalised posters and raised slogans against the party in Lakhimpur.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Congress leader Ajay Maken said that the success of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and the popularity of Rahul Gandhi has left the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rattled and what happened in Lakhimpur was a result of the same.
While showing the video clips of the incident, Maken said, "This is a yatra to give justice to the poor. And such incidents will not deter us from reaching out to the people".
The Congress leader informed that the party has already lodged FIR in this regard.
Maken said that the yatra was following the route that was already decided after consultation with the district administration and added that the same route was taken by BJP National President JP Nadda.
"We want to meet the people and the people also want to meet Rahul Gandhi and share their problems with him then what is the problem?
This show how popular Rahul Gandhi and his yatra is in Assam and this is leading the government to resort to such incidents, the congress leader added.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the attack and said that the party will not cowed down by this.
Karge on X posted, "We strongly condemn the shameful attack on the #BharatJodoNyayYatra vehicles and tearing of Congress party's banners and posters by BJP goons in Lakhimpur, Assam.
In the last 10 years, BJP has attempted to trample and demolish every right and justice guaranteed by the Constitution to the people of India. It wants to subjugate their voices, thereby hijacking democracy.
Congress Party will not be cowed down by this tactic of attack and intimidation employed by the BJP Government in Assam, which is responsible for this.
Congress party shall take appropriate legal action against these BJP stooges.
Our fight and Shri @RahulGandhi's commitment for People's NYAY is unstoppable".
