Ashwani Lohani inspects TCAS between Lingamapalli-Vikarabad

Hyderabad, Nov 24 (UNI) Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani on Saturday inspected the field trials of Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) system on Lingampalli-Vikarabad Section of Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway (SCR).

He was accompanied by Railway Board Signal and Telecommunication Director General, N Kashinath, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav and other senior officials, an SCR statement here said.

TCAS is an indigenously developed system of Research Designs & Standards Organization (RDSO), Lucknow with a view to meet the requirements of Safety on Indian Railways comprehensively. Work for undertaking extended field trail on 250 route kms with 40 locomotives has been sanctioned and the Railway section in Secunderabad division of South Central Railway has been identified for the trail.

TCAS is aimed to serve as an automatic train protecting system having a capability to prevent train accidents caused due to cases of Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD), disobedience of trains speed restrictions, by automatic application of brakes, should train driver fails to do so. It also provides assistance to loco pilots by means of real time display of signalling related information such as movement authority, target speed, target distance, signal aspects in the loco pilots cab.

Mr Ashwani extensively reviewed the implementation of TCAS and inspected the functioning of the system on run. He was briefed on the implementation of TCAS on the Lingampalli – Vikarabad – Wadi Section and on Vikarabad – Bidar section of SCR for field trials. He checked on the intricate issues concerning TCAS, with a view to analyze its fail safe capabilities and was appreciative of the cost effective technology that is being put to use.

On his return to Secunderabad,MR Lohani visited the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunication (IRISET). He was briefed on the capabilities of this premier institute, involved in training of Officers and Supervisors in the field of Signal and Telecommunication Engineering on Indian Railways.

The Railway Board Chairman also interacted with the batch of Probationers undergoing training, before picking up full scale responsibilities. He exhorted the trainee Engineers to keep in focus, the need for Indian Railways to improve technologically. He wanted them to extensively understand the railway working and hold a positive mindset, fearless attitude and total integrity to their job.
