APCC Vice-president quits Cong, join TDP

Vijayawada Aug 30 (UNI) The Congress Party, which has been struggling to survive in the state politics since the combined Andhra Pradesh state was bifurcated, suffered a major blow today as APCC Vice-president Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru and state Youth Congress President D Avinash quit the Congress and joined the TDP.
Mr Nehru and Avinash met Chief Minister and Telugu Desam party National President N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence here today and had one hour long discussion before joining the TDP.
Later, talking to media, Mr Nehru said they had resigned the Congress party and joined the ruling TDP. Mr.Rajasekhar, who was in the Telugu Desam party, when it was launched by N T Rama Rao in 1982, said that he felt that joining the TDP was a home coming to him as he was the member of the TDP when it was launched in March 22, 1982.
