Melbourne, Jan 21 (UNI) World No 1 Ashleigh Barty of Australia continued her sublime form and moved into Australian Open round four on Friday.
Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova of the US rallied for a 4-6, 6-3 7-6 (10-5) victory handing down Japan's Naomi Osaka her first defeat at the Open.
Barty defeated Camila Giorgi of Italy 6-2, 6-3 in 61 minutes at Rod Laver Arena.
The Australian entered her third-round encounter having never lost to Giorgi, and she improved her head-to-head against the 30-year-old to 4-0.
"I thought tonight was really clean. I did well to get out of a really tricky game being 0-40 down in the first set. I think I was just able to keep that momentum going, make returns when it mattered most in important moments," said Barty.
Barty and Anisimova will lock horns in the pre-quarterfinal clash on Sunday.
