Amid predicament in Congress camp, BJP eyes Chakma stronghold seats in Mizoram

New Delhi/Aizawl, Oct 18 (UNI) BJP is sensing ‘victory’ in at least one seat in poll-bound Mizoram even as confusion prevails on the fate of November 28 elections and candidates in two key assembly segments in West Tuipui and Tuichawng.

An influential umbrella body of civil societies – the NGO Coordination Committee - appealed to all major political parties last year not to field any candidate belonging to the Chakma community in these two Chakma dominated seats. The ruling Congress has announced 36 candidates for the 40-member state assembly polls and kept the names for these seats and two others in abeyance for the time being.
