Additional CBI Spl Judge sentences Ex-Central Excise Commissioner, Vizag to 2 years RI

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam has convicted Surender Pal Singh alias S.P.Singh (an IRS officer of 1973 batch), the then Commissioner, Central Excise, Port Area, Visakhapatnam and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs 20,000 in a CBI case.
CBI had registered a case on March 9, 2001 U/s 120-B of IPC and Sec.8, 10 & 13(2) r/w. 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against S.P. Singh, a private person of a Hyderabad based private company; a businessman of New Delhi and unknown others, a CBI spokesperson said in a release on Wednesday.
The release said It was alleged that during the year 2001, Singh had entered into a criminal conspiracy with three private persons including businessman and abused his official position in the matter of adjudication of the evasion of Excise Duty to the tune of Rs.4.88 crore(approx) by Andhra Pradesh based private companies(all these were sister concerns).
