AASU warns Shah over CAB

AASU warns Shah over CAB

Guwahati, Oct 2 (UNI) The influential The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has warned Union home minister Amit Shah over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and asked him to refrain from playing with the sentiments of the people of Assam and others states of Northeast. The statement of AASU comes after home minister on Tuesday said in Kolkata that the Centre would bring the contentious Citizenship Bill soon.
“The students’ body would be forced to launch a democratic movement if the Centre tries to impose the Bill against the wishes of the people,” AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said. “AASU would never accept the violation of the Assam Accord,” Gogoi said.
Mr Gogoi further said the Centre’s move to try and give citizenship to foreigners based on religion is unconstitutional as India is a secular country.
