A fire broke out at a garment godown in Posta, biggest wholesale market in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 8 (UNI) A fire broke out on Thursday at a garment godown in Posta,
biggest wholesale market in the city, near the Sundari park.
Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
The fire broke out at around 1500 hours and was brought under control at about
1800 hours, a senior fire official said.
The locals first spotted smoke from a garments shop, which was closed, at Posta’s
Shibtala lane. They immediately informed the fire service and two fire tenders were
immediately pressed into service, Later on, three more were rushed to the spot, he
said.
The Kolkata Police and disaster management team were also present at the spot.
The fire officials were not being able to enter the shop due to thick smoke. Later on,
the used oxygen and masks and entered.
This shop has a tradition to perform Lakshmi Puja during Kali Puja. Hence, puja was
on during Wednesday night.
The fire service officials assumes that the fire broke out from some of the things
used during puja.
The people in the adjacent area were evacuated earlier, while traffic from the nearby
roads were diverted.
