8th edition of Global IT challenge concludes

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) The eighth annual Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) winners were announced here on Sunday.
This year’s competition attracted 100 entrants from 18 countries, a statement said.
The competition was outstanding and awards were given to 55 deserving achievers.
The event was co-hosted by Ministry of Health and Welfare (Korea); Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (India); LG Electronics & Rehabilitation International Korea (RI Korea).
LG Electronics has been organising the Global IT Challenges for Disabled Youth since 2011, to help eradicate the digital divide among people with disabilities and help establish a foundation for social advancement for them.
Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Dr Thawar Chand Gehlot presented the awards to the winners. Global IT leader award was won by Fayza Putri Adila from Indonesia. Sourav Kumar Sinha from India won super challenger award & Manjot Singh won in Etool & E Map challenge (Group award).

The Challenge was focused on strategies for strengthening IT skills of youth with disability as a critical requirement for enhancing their access to information and communication services on an equal basis with others. It was held with a total of four events including e-Tool Challenge to evaluate the skills of using the MS Office program and e-LifeMap Challenge to evaluate the online information search ability in specific situations. To increase in demand for digital images, LG Electronics has set up a new e-Contents Challenge, which evaluates video shooting and editing capabilities. It also organizes direct stories using scratch programs and creates games and 'e-Creative Challenge' – was held in a group. The competition was a testing ground for individual as well as group competencies in the field of IT.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Kim Ki Wan, Managing Director, LG Electronics India said, “We were elated to host GITC ( Global IT challenge) in India this year. GITC is a small step to change the lives of youth with disability and thereby give them an opportunity to make their dreams come true. Competition aimed to create opportunities for the youths to discover their self-competence as well as to improve their ability to leverage information and social participation expecting to bring a society without barriers. We are confident that this initiative will bring immense value to the lives of young students and help them achieve their goal.”
"We are delighted to win awards in Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities( GITC) " said Manjot Singh who is a student of class 12 DPS Gurgaon & Sourav Kumar Sinha who is student of Class 10 in West Bengal. . "This will certainly motivate us to take challenges ahead & create new milestones for us." said both of them.
