7 dead in racing event accident in central Sri Lanka

Colombo, Apr 21 (UNI) Seven people died and 20 others were injured on Sunday when a racing car veered off the track and rammed into a crowd at an event in Diyatalawa town in central Sri Lanka, the police said.
The police said the accident took place when the car lost control at the Fox Hill Super Cross 2024 racing event in Diyatalawa and hit a group of spectators.
Accidents involving motor vehicles are common in Sri Lanka. There were 2,557 deaths resulting from 2,200 fatal traffic accidents in Sri Lanka in 2023.
