17-yr-old college girl student commits suicide at her granny's house in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Jun 14 (UNI) A 17-year-old college girl student, hailing from Karnataka, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her grandmother's house in R K Nagar area of the city for not being able to meet her family amidst Covid-19 lockdown.
The deceased girl, Prerna Kunthinath Kalyankar, originally resident of Akkol in Chikodi tehsil of Belgaum district in Karnataka, was staying with her grandmother here for pursuing her college education.
She wanted to go to her house at Akkol village but could not due to the nationwide lockdown enforced in the wake of outbreak of Covid-19 in the state, police said.
So, in desperation, Prerna hanged herself from the roof of her grandmother's house with a 'dupatta' on Saturday.
The Karveer police are conducting further probe into the incident, sources added.
