'Stranger Things' Season 4 preview storms the internet

Los Angeles, May 21 (UNI) The hype around “Stranger Things” season 4 is at a high, ahead of its release on May 27. After a few details regarding the new season were leaked, Netflix has offered its first official eight- minute preview into the upcoming season.
The clip starts with Dr Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) who was head of Hawkins National Laboratories and was conducting US government sanctioned research into the alternate dimensions and psychic children in the first season, and served as a major antagonist in the first season.
In the preview, which happens a bit before the events of the show in 1979, we see a bunch of psychic children playing and Brenner conducting an experiment with one of the subjects referred to as “Ten”.
We also see a different side to Brenner’s personality which alters him from the manipulative and ruthless sociopath he was shown to be in season 1, implying a certain level of genuine care for the children at Hawkins Lab.
We then see a door being psychically flung at the doctor who later wakes up with his head bleeding and finds the walls blood stained, the children and a bunch of staff dead with a young Eleven standing staring with her nose and eyes bleeding and Brenner asking “What have you done?” This further implies that we will get an additional background on the experiments conducted by Martin Brenner, the abuse filled childhood of Eleven and possibly more on her connection with the Upside Down.
After Stranger Things official Twitter headline posted the preview, Netflix revealed how many episodes will be in each of the season’s two “volumes.” Volume one, which is what premieres next week, will have seven episodes. Volume two, which debuts just over a month later, on July 1st, will have two episodes.
The last three episodes of the season have been touted as full length movies with the last episode of Volume 1, Episode 7 clocking in at 1 hour and 38 minutes. Volume 2 will consist of the final two episodes with Episode 8 having a 1-hour-and-25-minute runtime and Episode 9 totalling out at a whopping 2 hours and 30 minutes long, according to Netflix
It is not unnatural for creators, cast and crew of a show to hype up the expectations for a serial’s new season by saying stuff like “this is going to be even bigger than the last one” or that “this is going to be darker and more haunting than the last one”.
But from the clip released, it would seem that the Duffer Brothers and the crew are not over exaggerating things when they say that this season is going to be darker and more mysterious than before.
Speaking of the locations in the new season, Matt Duffer, one half of the director duo, said in a statement, “We have Hawkins, of course, as always, but then on top of that we have California and Russia. We have storylines in those three major locations, and each has a very distinct feel and look. And all these storylines, disparate as they are, do end up, eventually and inevitably, coming together. It’s a very unique season.”
The Duffer Brothers have compared this season to Game of Thrones in terms of the epic and emotional scale of the narrative with the story being so grand in scale that they needed an additional episode to tell it, an idea which Netflix was more than willing to accommodate.
