Maharashtra CEO flags ECINET constraints, seeks restoration of ERO powers amid SIR row

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking changes to its ECINET software and restoration of greater operational flexibility for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), amid controversy over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In the communication, Chockalingam raised concerns over the rigid software parameters that could constrain the statutory powers of local EROs and create difficulties during verification of electoral records.
