Punjab police officer shot dead in Amritsar, DGP says assailants will face 'exemplary action'

Chandigarh, Sep 18 (UNI) An assistant sub-inspector of Punjab Police was shot dead at close range by unidentified assailants in Amritsar, state police chief Gaurav Yadav said, as investigators examined CCTV footage and forensic evidence to track down the attackers. ASI Harjit Singh, posted at Gate Hakiman police station, had left the station at around 9:30 p.m. for duty at Dana Mandi. Preliminary investigation indicated that the attack took place at around 12:30 a.m., police said.
