Kakinada: Oil and gas exploration; All party committees demand Compensation for fishermen

Kakinada, Mar 4 (UNI) The all-party committee on Monday called on the district collector, Dr. Kritika Sukla, in a delegation and presented a memorandum demanding compensation to the fishermen who were displaced on account of ONGC drilling operations and seismic survey.
The committee also demanded a fifty percent share of the KG Basin oil and natural gas reserves for the state, as recommended by the 12th Finance Commission.
The ONGC started oil and gas production drilling wells 30 kilometres off the Kakinada coast in January 2024. The value of the oil and gas production will be over lakhs of crores of rupees. If fifty percent of the revenue on oil and gas produced was given to Andhra Pradesh, it would help in all-round accelerated development. Moreover, petrol can be supplied for Rs. 10 litres and gas cylinders at Rs. 100,’ the committee said.
