ICG averts major maritime incident off Paradip, stabilises distressed tanker

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has averted a major maritime incident off Odisha's Paradip coast by stabilising a Belize-flagged chemical tanker carrying 9,000 metric tonnes of palm oil after its main engine failed and a ballast tank was flooded, leaving the vessel dangerously tilted. The incident occurred around 37 nautical miles east-south-east of Paradip on September 27, when the tanker MT Seagull 9, with 23 crew members onboard, issued a distress call at around 7.30 am following the engine failure and rapid flooding of a ballast tank.
