There is no empowerment or freedom without feeling of safety: Manjari Fadnis

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Expressing her anguish over the incidents of rape in Kathua and Unnao, Bollywood actor Manjari Fadnis on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that punishment for such incidents should be as 'barbaric as the act.
In an open letter to the Prime Minister, Manjari, describing the act of rape as ''worse than a cold blooded murder" said that while there was a lot of talk about about Women Empowerment, "there is no empowerment or freedom without the feeling of safety".
Talking to UNI, Manjari, who penned the letter to the PM in a facebook post, said that the gruesome incidents in Kathua and Unnao she felt the need to speak strongly on the increasing violence against women
"What is happening is sickening. In the past too, I have reacted to such incidents but not as strongly. Things have reached the Threshhold of tolerance now,'' she said.

In her letter to the PM, Manjari said,''In ur reign can u atleast gift the women of this country their freedom & safety by making the punishment for Rape so Gruesome & Spine Chilling that any (so called) man gets a chill down his spine giving him an erectile dysfunction, remembering the consequences of committing a rape, even before the thought of committing the heinous crime, and immediately backs off! Rapes in our country will not stop till the punishment is as BARBARIC as the act.''.
'
Describing the act of rape as ''worse than a cold blooded murder", she said that even a Juvenile should not escape the wrath of this.
''Not even a Juvenile boy should escape the wrath of this. Coz rape is an adult crime even if performed by a juvenile, deserving an adult punishment.
Let’s DEFINE JUVENILE... the Dictionary Definition of Juvenile is “IMMATURE; CHILDISH; INFANTILE” By what terms is a RAPE an act of immaturity, childishness or infancy???
By the age of 13 a child knows the difference between right & wrong. For sure he understands when he is committing a crime or when he is inflicting pain on another person not to mention the torture in the form of rape!
The so called Juvenile ‘Boy’ in Nirbhaya’s case (who was almost a few months from turning 18 when he Gruesomely Raped Nirbhaya), who is now 22/23 years old walks free in the open, apparently a cook in some road side Dhaba, remorseless of his crime (according to the assessment by his counselor). How is any woman safe? Bring him back & Hang him too!,''she said.
Lamenting that over five years after the Nirbhaya incident, the situation continued to be the same, Manjari said that despite the much talk about women empowerment, there was no empowerment or freedom without the feeling of safety.
''They say it takes time to change laws or bring in New Laws in the Constitution... How much time r we talking about here? It’s been 5 years already since Nirbhaya... (with a thousand & more additional other similar cases of rapes & gang rapes... out of which only a few r reported but most unnoticed or buried, in the past 5 years)
We talk so much about Women Empowerment... But there is no Empowerment or freedom without the feeling of safety,''she said.
