Morari Bapu's remark angers Swaminarayan sect, apology demanded

Ahmedabad, Sep 6 (UNI) Well-known Ram Katha orator Morari Bapu landed in a controversy, after he questioned the authenticity of 'Nilkhanthvarni,' the main deity of Swaminarayan sect, who has set up many resplendent Akshardham temples in and outside India.
The native of Talgajarada in Mahuva taluka of Bhavnagar in Gujarat, who has a large number of followers, had during a Ram Katha recently, said ''Some one asked me to do the Abhishek of one small idol, claiming it to be 'Nilkanthvarni,' but I said this is a false Nilkanth as the Nilkanth, the husband of Parvathi, is only one and that is Lord Shiva, who drinks poison''.
After strong reaction from the saints of the sect, which also has lakhs of devotees in Gujarat and other places, Bapu, in an apparent move to end the controversy, in a video message said that he did not want to hurt the religious sentiments on anyone and say 'Michchhami Dukkdam' (the sentence Jain devotees say to seek forgiveness).
