Hyderabad: AINU doctors perform life-saving surgery on premature infant

Hyderabad, Aug 23 (UNI) The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) recently conducted a successful dual surgery on a premature baby born at 32 weeks and weighing just 2 kg.
The infant had a relatively rare condition called posterior urethral valves (PUV), which is a condition found in baby boys where extra tissue blocks or narrows the flow of urine from the bladder through the urethra and can cause urine to build up and damage the kidneys, the institute said in a release here on Friday.
This blockage can make it hard for the baby to pee normally while in the mother’s womb thereby leading to less amniotic fluid around the baby, leading to premature delivery, the way it has happened to our baby, PUV is usually present from birth and can be detected during pregnancy or shortly after.
