Congress leader Gopal Tiwari seeks removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, calls for Supreme Court intervention

Pune, Sep 23 (UNI) Senior Maharashtra Pradesh Congress spokesperson Gopal Tiwari on Wednesday demanded that the Supreme Court take suo motu cognisance of the functioning of the Election Commission of India and seek the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the independence of the poll body was being compromised. Tiwari's remarks came amid reports that two Election Commissioners had formally raised objections on several occasions to aspects of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
