Two militants killed in J&K’s Sopore

Srinagar, April 26 (UNI) Security forces shot two militants dead during an overnight operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district.
A civilian was also hit by a bullet during the encounter, officials said.
The encounter between militants and forces in Sopore, an erstwhile militant hotbed, broke out on Thursday evening.
Police said, acting on a specific intelligence input, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police, army, and Central Reserve Police Force in the Check Mohalla Nowpora in Sopore on Thursday evening.
"So far, two terrorists have been killed," official sources said, adding that two soldiers were also wounded during the gun battle.
There is, however, no official word on the casualties so far.
The identity and affiliation of the slain could not be established immediately.
In the wake of the operation, the authorities suspended class work in various educational institutions on Friday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina, said as a precautionary measure, class work in all schools and colleges was suspended for Friday in the entire Tehsil.
This was the second gun battle since Wednesday in Kashmir. Militants and security forces on Wednesday morning exchanged fire for a brief period in Bandipora district of north Kashmir that left two soldiers wounded.
The massive combing operation to trace the militants in the forest area of Bandipora continues on Friday. Security forces are also using drones and helicopters for surveillance of the dense forest area.
