IIT Palakkad develops fluorescent sensors for rapid blood-clotting control

Palakkad, Sep 16 (UNI) Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT Palakkad) have developed advanced fluorescent chemosensors to rapidly, accurately and reliably monitor the level of heparin, an anticoagulant drug widely used during critical medical procedures. The newly developed sensors could help ensure accurate heparin dosing during cardiac surgeries, dialysis, blood transfusions and other procedures where maintaining the appropriate level of anticoagulation is crucial to prevent both blood clotting and excessive bleeding.
