Lucknow, Sep 1 (UNI) The Central Government's much-awaited 'India Post Payments Bank' was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here at GPO on Saturday.
On the occasion, Mr Singh handed over first five account holders QR Card. A special cover was also released on this occasion to make this program memorable.
Mr Singh, while speaking about the achievements of the Modi Government, said that the Government is moving together with the aim of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas' and India Post Payments Bank will play significant role in this regard. The Central Government has taken initiative for opening of bank accounts of the last mile of the society through 650 Branches of India Post Payment Bank and 3250 Access Points across the country. All remaining Post Offices will be linked by the end of the year.
Mr said that Postman will now play the role of a bank and provide banking services to the people of unbanked areas. He pointed out the initiation of schemes such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, for better future of girl child to meet out the purpose of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and also other schemes such as Atal Pension Yojana, Prime Minister Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and the Prime Minister Suraksha Beema Yojana in the Post Offices.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Postmaster General, Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Vinaya Prakash Singh said that 73 branches of India Post Payments Bank and 292 Access Points are being started across the State. The India Post Payments Bank will work through various means, including counter operations, door-to-door service, Mobile and Internet banking etc. Shri Singh said that the role of Postal Department is changing rapidly. The Post Office is facilitating the needs of the people with innovative technology in areas such as savings, insurance, e-commerce. People may now avail benefits of IPPB by getting their Post Office Savings accounts linked with IPPB. In this regard money from various social security schemes can be directly credited to the beneficiary account under the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme. (DBT)
Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services, Lucknow Region said that the postman delivering the letters will now come with ‘Mobile App’ and will make true the concept of “Aapka Bank, Aapke Dwar”.
On this occasion, UP Cabinet Minister Prof. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Mohanlalganj MP Kaushal Kishore, and Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia were present.
