Heavy rains create havoc for citizen; 16 killed in rain-related incidents

Lucknow, Sep 16 (UNI) The situation in Uttar Pradesh is worsening due to heavy rain witnessed across the state for the past 46 hours. More than 16 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents.
Winds are blowing at speeds of 40-50 km/h. Roads have become ponds and rainwater has entered colonies. There is a threat of flash floods in 32 districts.
Roads have been blocked due to uprooted trees and poles, and several houses have collapsed.
According to IMD, in the last 24 hours, the state received 52.5 mm of rain, which is 25 times more than the normal 2.7 mm. Since June 1, 751.9 mm of rain has fallen, 2pc more than the quota. Normally, 738 mm of rain falls during this period.
According to reports, 3 people died each in Lakhimpur and Barabanki when a house wall collapsed, and one each in Hamirpur, Fatehpur, and Bahraich.
In Agra, a speeding car skidded and overturned amid rain, killing three people. In Lakhimpur, an Ertiga car fell into a ditch after colliding with a trolley, in which 2 people died on the spot. One person died in Ayodhya when a tree fell on a car.
The Mandakini River in Chitrakoot is flowing above the danger mark. The District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) are announcing that people should close their shops and return home if the water level rises. Police are also patrolling in Jalaun and Amethi.

In Lucknow, water has entered homes, even kitchens and bedrooms. Streets are filled with waist-deep water. People are struggling at intersections due to the lack of cabs and the exorbitant fares. In Bareilly and Fatehpur, streets and neighbourhoods are flooded with 2-3 feet of water.
In Deoria and Barabanki, fields are flooded. Hundreds of acres of paddy crops have been destroyed.
