Heavy rain, thunderstorm likely in Haryana for two days; Punjab may see heavy rain on Sept 27: IMD
Panchkula, Sep 26 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 26 and 27, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely to lash the region during the two days.
The IMD, in its morning weather bulletin issued on Saturday, said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph were very likely at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab on September 26 and 27. The broader forecast said winds could gust up to 60 kmph. Punjab is likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 27, while isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast over the state during September 26-30.
Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 26-27. It is likely to decrease thereafter, becoming scattered on September 28 and isolated on September 29, with dry weather forecast from September 30 to October 2. The IMD said the withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa and Naliya.
A depression over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining north Chhattisgarh was likely to move north-northwestwards towards southeast Uttar Pradesh before gradually weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area. A western disturbance was also present as a trough within the middle-tropospheric westerlies.
Elsewhere in the country, the IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, over Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on September 26, while heavy to very heavy rain was likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rainfall was also forecast at isolated places over Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
For September 27, Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh, in addition to Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the west-central and adjoining northwest and southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off the north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts for the next 12 hours, with rough sea conditions and squally winds prevailing in the region.
