Congress MLA questions bureaucratic challenge to J&K Assembly's authority

Srinagar, Sept 29 (UNI) Congress MLA Nizam-ud-din Bhat on Tuesday questioned the authority of senior bureaucrats to challenge the proceedings and powers of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, saying officers cannot act independently of the elected government. Raising a point of law during the Assembly proceedings, Bhat said the letters sent by senior bureaucrats to the Speaker amounted to a challenge to the "prestige, dignity and powers" of the House.
