Society's role important in raising voter awareness: collector

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) District collector Dilip Swamy on Monday stressed on creating public awareness to increase voting percentage in upcoming elections while suggesting that in this, the role of all elements of the society including various social organisations and individuals, is important.
In last election, the voter turnout in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district was unsatisfactory at 63 per cent, he said.
The Election Commission is trying to raise voters' awareness through various activities such as SVEEP (systematic voter's education and electoral participation programme), lectures in colleges for new voters, he said.
